iSci Grad Maryanne Oketch to compete in Survivor
ISci GRAD AIMS TO OUTWIT, OUTPLAY AND OUTLAST
Integrated Science graduate Maryanne Oketch is one of 18 cast members competing for $1 million in the 42nd season of Survivor. Maryanne, who graduated in 2020, helped first-year students transition to university as an MSU Horizons volunteer and a Faculty of Science Welcome Week Representative. Maryanne also advocated for support for Black students through the student newspaper and served as Speaker with the McMaster Students Union.
On the Survivor website, Maryanne says the accomplishment she’s most proud of is “writing an article for my school newspaper that led to me being invited to consult with my university’s Equity and Inclusion officer on creating a better framework and support for Black students at McMaster University. Being able to use my voice for change that not only benefitted me was so empowering.”
Maryanne earned rave reviews from Entertainment Weekly after Survivors’ March 9th premiere.
