The McMaster Alumni Association in partnership with the School of Interdisciplinary Science is pleased to offer a third installment of Science Stories: A Science Communication Speaker Series.

This semester our guest speaker will be Helen Branswell, an award-winning health journalist based in Boston, who will share her experiences as a journalist covering topics in the field of health science in the current climate of “fake news” through a sit down Q&A session with moderator Katie Moisse.

Helen is a senior writer for STAT covering infectious diseases and public health. She jumped on the outbreak beat in 2003, covering the 2003 SARS epidemic for the Canadian Press. Helen won the prestigious Award for Health Care Journalism last year for a series stories exposing debates among scientists about flu shots and antibiotics and disputes among government health officials. She is the go-to source for the latest on Ebola in Central Africa and a staunch advocate for free and independent journalism.
